Applications close soon for $2000 Housing NSW Youth Scholarships
200 students living in social housing will be awarded scholarships worth $2000 each, to help them complete their Higher School Certificate or TAFE equivalent. The $2000 scholarships are managed by the student’s educational institution and can be spent on educational items such as computer equipment, text books or tutoring.
Mike Allen, Chief Executive, Housing NSW said “Housing NSW urges all young people and parents living in social housing to get their applications in...Housing NSW believes it is important for young people to have not only a roof over their heads, but a helping hand to move on and up, and for this a solid education is vital. We want to ensure that young people living in social housing have what they need to succeed in completing their HSC and continuing on to higher education to follow their dreams." The social housing scholarship program was now in its sixth year. Due to the success of the program the number of scholarships was increased last year from 170 to 200 and Housing NSW will continue to offer 200 again this year. “All of our past recipients have been financially enabled by the scholarships, and for many it has provided sufficient incentive to stay at school and continue studying.
To be eligible students must be under 25 years old, live in or be on the waiting list for social housing, be studying Year 11, 12 or TAFE and be recommended by their school or educational institution.
Application forms are available at the Housing NSW website: www.housing.nsw.gov.au.
