Managing Tenancies

All tenancies in the NSW cooperative housing programme are managed in accordance with the Residential Tenancies Act and requirements determined by the Registrar of Community Housing.

The key activities in managing tenancies include:

  • Selecting new tenant members
  • Establishing and, if applicable, renewing Tenancy Agreements
  • Ensuring new tenants are advised of their rights and responsibilities, and receive all the information needed to start a successful tenancy.
  • Issuing up-to-date statements to tenants about their rent account.
  • Arranging routine inspections in accordance with the Residential Tenancies Act, the Cooperative Company Agreement (CCA) and CENSW policy;
  • Ensuring correct procedures are followed when a tenancy is ended.

NSW housing cooperatives effectively manage their tenancies, and work with tenants to resolve any breaches of the tenancy agreement. To ensure consistency and fairness, cooperatives have clear policies and procedures. Cooperatives should seek advice from CENSW regarding the rights and obligations as a landlord should any issues arise that require advice or clarification. Your allocated Field Officer is available to provide the cooperative with assistance and advice.
